Then for dessert we had the Baba au Rhum for which they are famous. It's a kind of sponge cake with a liberal dowsing of rum and covered with whipped cream. Decadent, but delicious. You would never guess such a simple restaurant could have such good food.
On Saturday, today, we decided to go a concert in the St. Michel area. We went out to the bus stop,
but no bus came. Several blocks from the bus stop there is a big boulevard that connects the place de la République with the place de la Bastille. We saw that there were police trucks and crowds of people. Since the bus would come from that direction, we walked up to see. It was a large demonstration in support of the Kurdish people in Turkey. There must have been thousands of people marching down the boulevard carrying signs and shouting slogans. See some of the protestors below.
Parading down the boulevard Beaumarchais headed toward the place de la Bastille.
Here a variety of flags of nations and causes.
Here they are using flags with Che Guavera on them.
The one above says that the city of Kobane is resisting against the parasites of the Imperialists.
Seeing that the demonstration had delayed considerably the busses, we were too late for the concerrt so instead we sat in a café for the usual. We then went off to the Café Sancerre located just two blocks from us where I frequently go for a coffee in the morning. We have also eaten there several times. We went there because I had noticed that morning that they had brandade on the menu for today. It was delicious. Brandade is a Provençal dish made by whipping salt cod and potatoes with milk, olive oil, and garlic until silky. Sometimes it is served browned with cheese on top (au gratin).
